Bolzano Low Emissions Zone, route Ortisei to Venice

Trying to make sense of the regulations. Is it just the city? We will be traveling from Ortisei to Venice in a rental car. Fastest route shows passing through Bolzano. Do we need any sort of permit?

I don’t understand what you are asking. The road from Ortisei to Bolzano is about an hour and no cars in most of Venice. Can you drive to Bolzano then train to Verona then Venice? There is also a long mountain road from Dolomites region heading west with various scenic places if you want to drive and no rush.

I am just trying to make sure I don’t run into any unexpected issues. We will have a rental car to return in Venice.

We are picking up the car and driving to Slovenia - then back to the Dolomites and returning to Venice. If the weather is good we will circle north and include a detour to include Grossglackner High Alpine Road. If weather is bad we will drive back to Venice and take a faster route to Ortisei.

I see three routes between Ortisei and Venice. Just starting to reset the differences.

Are you able to recommend both a bad weather route and a scenic route? We will need to return the car to Sixt at Venice Mestre approximately 2 pm.

Travel days are September 12th and 22nd.

End of Sept should be fine. for scenery you can take the road to Cortina via Passo Sella/Canazei or Passo Falzarego, then from Cortina down the Cadore Valley to the A27 to Venice. Check travel restrictions on the passes during some weekends. They have low emissions restrictions now that require pre booking, but only in some heavy travel days. Check with your hotel.
