We will be staying 2 nights (1 day) in Bolzano before heading to the Dolomites for 5 days. We would like to find a relatively inexpensive hotel in the center of town. Can anyone recommend one?
We stayed at Hotel Regina. It is close to the train station and maybe a 5 minute walk to town center. There was a nice breakfast. Room clean and comfortable.
We stayed at the Bogen Apartments in October in the old town, although I would not recommend. Down the same street is the Goldenstern Townhouse which looked much more appealing and in the same price range. We wish we'd stayed there.
The moderately-priced hotels in Bolzano seem to fill early during peak season. If yours is a summer trip, I'm glad you're looking now.
Be aware that not everything in Bolzano is air conditioned. The city can be very hot in the summer. Know what you're signing up for and read reviews carefully to be sure there are not complaints about the a/c if you're travelling during cooling season.
My daughter stayed at Hotel Feichter, which was recommended by a member here on the Rick Steves Travel Forum. She said it was a good location, clean, and a very helpful staff.
