Bologna vs. Florence Airport (Venice-Verona-Florence)

Hi,
My husband and I are flying to Venice to meet up with our daughter who will be in Sicily for three weeks with her university. We want to stay in the northern part of Italy. It’s a relatively quick trip (6/3-6/11/2022) and we don’t want to rush. Here’s our basic itinerary.
Venice - 3 nights (with a day trip to Verona)
Florence - 3 nights
Bologna - 1 night so we can fly out of Bologna’s airport.
*I made a mistake, I think, in booking our flights. Travel agent here - I think I just got distracted. Anyway, it’s basically the same cost to fly out of Bologna or Florence. I just booked the flights so I have time to make a change (I think). Is it worth making the change to Florence or is Bologna worth a day?
Thanks so much for any help!

Bologna and Emilia-Romagna region worth more than a day, so don't worry about it.
And visit the city with the oldest European university could be interesting for a university student (even if isn't clear if you do this trip with her or not.
From Florence to Bologna is only a 30 minutes ride by train, so is a very short travel.

Bologna for a night is ok. If you want to visit it, it’s up to you.
Leave Florence in the morning, get to your accommodations then visit the city.
I don’t know if your flight is super early and prefer to stay at the airport. The airport is about 25 min from downtown by taxi, so you could stay downtown. But if you’d rather stay at the airport I recommend this hotel:

I recommend staying in Florence an extra night and flying from there. Heck, you’re going to be there anyway and this way you can take a day trip to Siena. I’ve been to Bologna once and didn’t care for it.

Bologna is one of the most important cities in Italy for food! Some of the best restaurants in Italy are there. Definitely worth it to spend some time here. It's quite beautiful as well.
