Yesterday a new section of the highway between Bologna and Florence was opened. The new route, mostly in tunnels, is lower in elevation, straighter and 10-15 minutes faster than the old one - nicknamed "hell on wheels" - that will be still open as an alternate route and to reach difficult zones. The steep ramp between Barberino and Florence is still on the old route, 2+2 lanes that in the next years will be converted to 3+3 lanes.
