Can anyone recommend a place to stay while in Bologna? I prefer local places and can stay slightly outside of town.

Hi Christine,
We tried to find a hotel in Bologna for the end of March and couldn't find an affordable one that was available--we changed our plans and decided to stay in Verona instead. Apparently Bologna is a big convention city. Here's a link to another thread about Bologna that might be helpful.

I've stayed at the Albergo Della Drapperie which is close to Piazza Maggiore and the heart of the old city. Its a small place, just 20 rooms or so, so it might be overlooked by the crowds snapping up rooms for conventions. It was clean, and is a good RS place (eg you'll walk up stairs). We stayed at the Albergo Centrale 1 block from the Piazza Maggiore. Good price, nice 2 star, good breakfast. You might want to stay in that area because the best part of Bologna is the area just beyond the Piazza.
