Have lunch at Tamburini. It's a really great deli that serves lunch only cafeteria-style in the rear. The food is exceptionally good and the price is quite reasonable. The lunch I had there was my favorite meal in Bologna and by far the least expensive. I had a really nice dinner at Trattoria Osteria Buca Manzoni, also not far from Piazza Maggiore.

Check out Mercato delle erbe for a very local experience. We had the best lunch there.
