Bologna - Place to stay and excursion referrals

Hello

We will be visiting Italy in July.

We will be in Bologna, and plan to stay over night in Modena for anight.

We would love to visit a parmigiana cheese factory. Where should we go? I heard Parma would be the place to go. Is this the best option?

We would also like to take pasta making class . We are of Italian descent and have made fresh pasta on several occasions. I have never made tortellini, so that would be fun. But also, it is more for the experience of cooking in Italy. Have any of you taken a class that you truly enjoyed? It could be in Bologna, Modena or in that area

We would like to book a place to stay in Bologna since it is a busy time, in July. Any suggestions of the neighbourhood we should stay in. We are 4 adults. One foodie ;)

Thank you

No you don't have to go to Parma for cheese. You can go to quite a few places in the province of Modena. I have used Alice for several tours when people come to visit me (again this coming weekend). She can organize a tour to your specifications - several really good cooking classes (tortelloni or tortellini pasta- one of my favorites is at Umile Terra in Castelvetro). You can find Alice on instagram alyandiamo- Travel with Aly-Andiamo -Alice Misley. Her tours are with small places - cheese, balsamic vinegar - you choose.

Any neighborhood in Bologna will be fine. I usually stay somewhere between the train station and the Piazza Maggiore, which keeps you central to the sights.

The area immediately around the train station isn't attractive, so I agree that moving a bit in the direction of the historic center is a good idea.
