We're staying 40m out of Bologna at Palazzo di Varignana in Castel San Pietro Terme.
I was wondering if it's worth the 40m drive in or if you all could recommend a 4 or 5 star hotel within the City.

We have stayed at the Starhotel Excelsior in Bologna. Modern, business class hotel with 4 stars, I believe. The breakfast was huge. The staff were helpful and friendly. It is directly across from the train station.

The area right around the Bologna train station isn't very attractive.

We have stayed at the Savhotel several times in Bologna. There is parking and a wonderful buffet breakfast. The bus into the historic center is a short walk away.

I would not recommend driving into Bologna unless it is just for one time.
