I have a group of friends going to Bologna for two nights of our Italy trip in April
Does anyone recommend and Nice hotels and food walking tours?
do we need to go to Parma to go to Parmagiano cheese factory?
thanks
Deborah
I believe I've read on the forum about a cheese-and-balsamic-vinegar tour that goes to Parma and Modena from Bologna. Rick normally highlights a few things like that in his books.

The Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese is produced in a wide area, the provinces of Parma, Reggio-Emilia, Modena, the western part of Bologna (to the Reno river) and southern of Mantua (to the Po river). The dairies are located in these provinces, so you don't need to go to Parma. The production have to be done only in the morning, so is better choose a dairy close to where you sleep, to avoid a too early wake up. Being in a dairy before 8:30 is suggested to watching the production.
On the other side the Prosciutto di Parma has to be made only in a little part of the province of Parma, so for food tours often you go there to visita producer.
For walking food tours in Bologna or Modena I can suggest Emiliaromagna Tours, Taste Bologna and Bologna Welcome. The first suitable even for tailor made tours in the countryside. The best seller for foreign tourists is of course Parmigiano + Traditional Balsamic + Prosciutto.
Hotel in historic center, Novocento, part of a local hotel group.

All day tour that includes cheese making, Parma ham, balsamic vinegar tasting and lunch. Sounds wonderful and I’ve read on the forum that it is! We’ll be booking it for October.
