Bologna hotel or B&B recommendations

Hello, fellow travelers!
My wife and I and another couple will be visiting Bologna for 4 nights in May. Since Rick doesn't include Bologna in his guidebook I was hoping this group might have some recommendations for a nice hotel or B&B. I searched recent comments and found one place that offers a room or apartment.

Thanks, Scott

In September we stayed at Almarossa in Bologna. It is a hotel with suites and apartments, all except the smallest room have a private kitchen. They offered an Italian breakfast for 7 euros but since we had a kitchen we did our own breakfasts. Washing machines available downstairs and there are also a couple laundromats very close (one right across the street). It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station or historic center. It isn't a "wow" but we'd stay there again.

The only place we've stayed in Bologna was at the University Hotel. Is it pretty basic, no frills, functional hotel room but is well located near restaurant areas and in the University students side of town so cafes are cheap, funky and plentiful. It is about a 10 minute interesting walk from the core of old town.

Unless you're big eaters in the morning I wouldn't recommend paying a hotel for breakfast since plenty of coffee and pastry deals abound in the college area. A coffee, cappuccino, pastry and doughnut at the first place we visited was 5.50e. In my jet-lagged haze I actually triple checked to make sure I had paid for everything. I can't see paying 7+ euros a person as opposed to experimenting and trying a new funky place for breakfast everyday.

Enjoy Bologna,

We stayed at this airbnb in October - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48545009?source_impression_id=p3_1703362477_NQwAjKXkLYp%2Fs%2BD5 It's on the edge of the university area with a great view of the towers from the bedroom and living room windows. Easy 10-minute walking to restaurants and old town and quiet. I got my Italian haircut across the street - 10 euros - and it was the best one I've had in a while. Grocery and breakfast places nearby, too. Laundry and kitchen an added plus.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Metropolitan last October. It was close enough to the train station to walk to with our carryon-size luggage. It was just a half block off the Via Dell'Indipendenza which made it nice and quiet, and it was a convenient location for exploring town by foot. Our room had a lovely terrace, good service, very clean/modern. Bologna is lovely, and made a perfect home base for exploring other Emilia Romagna towns by train.

Airbnb app.
“Nice apartment in city center”
Hosted by Roberta.
We stayed here for two weeks and Roberta was one of the best hosts I have ever had at Airbnb.

The apartment was perfectly located And really easy to find so we never got lost coming home.
I don’t think there’s another apartment I would rather stayed in for my time there.

I cannot find that apartment hosted by Roberta on AirBnB. Do you have a link? Or the exact name of the apartment?. “Nice apartment in the city center” does not bring it up on the AirBnB app for me.

Scott, are you looking for 2 hotel or B and B rooms for the 2 couples, or an apartment to share?

Bologna is having a major event at the same time we'll be there so we ended up staying in Ravenna instead. We had planned to day trip Ravenna from Bologna, but now we'll be doing the opposite.
