We are spending two weeks in Italy in September, flying in and out of Rome with our last four nights there after stays in Florence and Lucca. While spending our first five nights in Florence, we had planned to take a day trip to Bologna and another day trip to Venice before traveling to Lucca for four nights . However, now we plan to cut our Florence stay to three nights with two nights in Bologna ( Friday and Saturday) where we can truly visit that city and take an all day trip to Venice. All of our travel in Italy will be by train.
Can anyone recommend a hotel in Bologna, preferably near the city center? We also want a hotel that will allow us to drop our luggage off early so that we can begin our Bologna visit during the mid-morning.
Any train suggestions will also be appreciated as we will conclude our Bologna stay by taking a train(s) to Lucca
Most all hotels will let you drop bags before check in
Start with booking.com
There are many hotels close to station that would work- easy walk to center
Late September in convention time so book early if that’s your time frame
Trenitalia for trains
Not sure your itinerary makes sense
Lucca is closer to Florence, I think you’ll have to change in Florence coming from Bologn, 4 nights there without a car is a bit long
Venice as a day trip won’t give you much and you’ll be smack in the middle of day tripper crowds
A 2 night stay in Bologna gives you 1.5 days there
Taking a day trip to Venice cuts time from Bologna
Four nights in Lucca after arriving from Rome early afternoon following an all night flight.
Our Lucca stay will include a day trip to Pisa and another day trip (or two) to Cinque Terre.
So not going to Lucca from Bologna as posted above?
Sorry, meant Florence after Rome arrival.
Have got Bologna stay worked out.
Many thanks.
