We need to drop off our rental car in Bologna on Wednesday, then take a train to Milan for our flight home. It would be really good if my husband could drop me off with our bags at the Stazione before dropping off the car. I'm pretty sure the station is inside the ZTL, but I'm wondering if there might be some kind of exception for quick dropoffs. Anyone heard of this, or is it just crazy wishful thinking on my part?

Bologna Centrale is outside of the ZTL. Scroll down on the map on this site to see the Bologna ZTL map.

Make sure you stay out of the bus lanes, as you will be fined for driving in those as well.

Bologna Centrale is very big and the surrounding traffic is very hectic. It is not located inside the ztl but very close because the majority of Bologna is designated as ztl. Unless you have tons of luggage please do not do the drop off and car return. Go return the car together and move luggage together, there are many entrances to get inside the station. Most car returns are located closed enough on the outer ring road of Bologna, check with car rental for the exact return location.
