Where is the best location to rent an apartment for a week in September in Bologna. We would like to take the train to places like Parma and Venice and any other destination that is close by?
look at the VRBO site - there are some really good choices there.
When we rent apartments in Bologna we like to choose one of the small side streets either side of via Indipendenza but a wee bit closer to Piazza Maggiore than the station. Via Indipendenza is a main shopping street that runs from Piazza Maggiore to the railway station, it is not a very long walk. Up to 10 minutes providing not too much window shopping!
We were on a main street but on an interior courtyard. Nonetheless, a couple of windows rattled when busses went by disturbing our sleep. I can't recommend the apartment we rented because we think it was overrated and have some doubts about a few reviews. But do use websites with maps to be sure you rent within walking distance to the station. Trip Advisor shows where apartments are located on a map.
Edit: for day trips you also have Ravenna, Padua, Ferrara, and even Florence.
