Bologna Airport (BLQ) News

In case you haven’t heard, a few weeks ago they inaugurated the new people Mover aka “Marconi Express” (the Bologna airport is named after Guglielmo Marconi, the famed inventor of the radio, a native of Bologna) from the airport to the Central station, 5 km away.

The Marconi Express Mover can take up to 50 passengers at the time from the airport to the Bologna Centrale station (and back) in approximately 7 minutes for the cost of €8.50.

This service makes the Bologna airport more convenient to reach also Florence, which is only 35 min away from Bologna Centrale via Freccia train.

On related news American Airlines will start a non stop flight from Philadelphia (PHL) to Bologna in June 2019.

Are you sure it's open to the public? The works were completed in November 2018, but what happened to the test runs?

It was supposed to open in March. The tests were already in progress in January. But I see an article in March that they are conducting a noise level test. So maybe the March opening slipped a few weeks.

We are landing in Bologna in July with 4 people (2 adults, a 17 and 14 year old) then taking the train from the Bologna train station to Florence. We’ll keep an eye on this new transportation but we are thinking we’ll take a taxi to the Bologna train station since there are 4 of us.

It's nice to hear that access to Bologna is improving. Using "People Movers" seems to be the trend in Europe these days. I imagine the one in Bologna is similar to the one in Pisa?

I wonder what will happen to the old trusty bus that circled through the city then wound up at the station before returning to the airport. Cheaper if I remember clearly, and certainly closer to the old centre of Bologna??

I wonder what hours it will operate? We had an early morning flight out of Bologna on April 5--too early for buses and People Mover not yet operating. As a point of reference, taxi fare from our front door in the San Domenico area was 24 Euros, including an "early bird" fee.
