My flight arrives in Bologna at 9am and the train to Florence leaves a little after 3pm. What should I do for those 5 odd hours? Is there a place to store luggage safely at the train station while I explore? thanks!!
Whatever you do should involve a nice long lunch someplace, since Bologna is especially famous for its food.
suggestions for a nice long lunch restaurant?
My husband and I just returned from Italy last week and spent a day and a night in Bologna as we were flying out of here. The very helpful TI in Piazza Maggiore has a brochure "Tourist Itinerary for half a day in Bologna." Bologna's medieval heart is surprisingly small so you will be able to see quite abit in 5 hrs. Most of the sights are within easy walking distance of the main Piazza Maggiore and the adjacent Piazza Nettuno. The TI also has a convenient sheet with restaurants listed with hrs open/days closed/approximate price range. Unfortunately I don't know anything about storing luggage at train station. We enjoyed our time in Bologna. Buon Viaggio!!
thank you so much for the great tips, Janet!
Take a short taxi ride to the Piazza Maggiore. From there, explore the side streets radiating outward, especially those to the left of the Cathedral facade. You should have no trouble finding a good place to eat and some nice shopping too.
