Any info on what to do / visit in and around Bologna in April?
Whatever you want: art, history, good food, museums, supercars, nightlife, natural parks and a lot of festivals. There is everything in Emilia Romagna.
Bologna is surrounded by towns with strong food connections including Modena and Parma.
The city of Bologna is beautiful, a treasure, with historic porticos covering the sidewalks. It is one of my favorite cities.
And if you like fast cars or Formula 1, you are near Ferrari where you can tour the museum and drive a fast car (for big bucks). Also near Lamborghini, I believe. Per AI: The area around Bologna, known as the Motor Valley, is a haven for car and motorcycle enthusiasts, boasting factories, museums, and racetracks for brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Ducati, and Pagani.
Thanks to all of you for your tips
We did a day trip to Bologna from Florence last fall and when we decided to do it I googled 'a day in Bologna' and got 3 different one day itineraries on blogs. I looked at all of them to get an idea of what I could do in a day and then chose one to follow with some modifications. we were very happy with it. If you have several days check out a guide book for museums and other sites you might not have time for in a day.
The itinerary we used was this one: https://thetravelfolk.com/one-day-in-bologna/
We stopped by the deli they recommended for lunch but didn't see either boards or a place to sit to eat them and so got a cheese/charcuterie board at a cafe which was fine. We ordered a one person board and it was ample for the two of us for lunch.
