Ending our trip in Bologna in Sept. 2 nights there. Looking for "foodie" neighborhoods that are safe, with walkable destinations. Ideas for restaurants and/or lodging. (We use Booking.com quite often). We would like to stay below $160US dollars per night for lodging.
We LOVE jazz, and want to do a night in a club.
Would consider Modena as well...
Thank you!!!!
We were there last September.
Check the Bologna events calendar- there were a lot of conventions in September that pushed up hotel prices.
We ended up changing our dates slightly to avoid those high prices.
We stayed at Hotel University- it was very nice, updated, huge bathroom, great location, not too expensive at all, plenty of restaurants etc nearby, easy to walk center/sights We booked on booking.com

Actually everywhere you turn in Bologna will have lots and lots of good places to eat.
One of our favorites was right near our hotel - we just stumbled on it- it was rainy and we didn't want to go far
Va Mo La! (no website that I can find)
We also booked a reservation at Osteria Del Sole
An historic Osteria right in the Quadrilatero- picked up our lunch at Salumeria Simoni and ate in Osteria with all the locals- really fun.

We just returned from Italy. Our trip included 4 nights in Bologna in an apartment we booked through booking.com. The name is Residenza Ariosto by Studio Vita. They have numerous apartments in two buildings at Via Marsala 8 and 11. The location is great—-just off Via Indipendenza about 4 blocks north of Piazza Maggiore. If by “foodie neighborhood” you mean the Mercato di Mezzo, this is very close.

This area is very safe and also walkable. There is an upscale grocery, Conrad’s Sapori e Dintorni, a hundred meters away if you want to buy food to cook “in”.

You did not mention exact dates and they do matter for Bologna, but the mid-September dates I checked had availability in at least one of their apartments for around $130 a night. They have an office on-site where you check in and pick up the keys, and the staff is available by message, phone, or through the booking.comm system but we never needed to contact them. This was an easy walk down Via Indipendenza from the train station.
We would happily stay here again.
We ate dinner twice in Bologna at da Cesari, wonderful! We stayed at Art Hotel Novecento part of a local hotel group. Perfect old town location. There was parking in an adjacent building’s garage that we used. We loved Bologna and are considering it for an extended stay. We haven’t been to Modena.
