Bologna - 1/2 Day Itinerary & Lasagna Recommendations

Good afternoon! My friend and I will be stopping in Bologna for about 5-6 hours on our way from Venice to Florence. I'd like to get an authentic flavor of the vibe/energy of Bologna and explore the Quadrilatero and Mercato di Mezzo. I'm also hoping to find the best place for lasagna.

While I recognize this is subjective, I'm curious to hear any suggestions of your favorite trattoria for lasagna in Bologna? Where is the best lasagna in Bologna?

It would also be great to hear any other recommendations of sights, restaurants, caffes, or gelateria to consider during our limited time there.

Thanks!

With such a short stop in Bologna, I'd focus on walking around the city center. You might want to take time to go up the Two Towers, which gives you great views over all of Bologna. You can choose whether to go inside any churches depending on time/interest. I had really great lasagna at Hostaria San Carlino, but I'm sure there are lots of other great places too. Most articles about Bologna mention Cremeria Santo Stefano as the best gelato place in town, but I really liked Il Gelatauro. Bologna is well-known for its food, so it's going to be hard to go wrong.

Sfogliarina. Can be busy, but all pasta is made on site. Menu says they have lasagna.

Cremeria Santo Stefano is a bit far for you to go unless you take a bus, but OGGI Gelato on Via Rizzoli is good as is Cremeria la Vecchia Stalla on Santo Stefano. (This was our gelato stop on our way home most nights.) It isn’t too far from the Quadrilatero and Mercato area, plus going into the Basilica Santo Stefano le Sette Chiese is very worth while. It may look far on the map, but it isn’t.
Your longest walk will be from the train station to the main historical area-20 minutes.
