We'll be in Rome 1 1/2 days after the Best of Europe Tour. What is best way/time to get to see the Vatican? We are not interested so much in the museum, just the Basilica.

If it is just the Basilica, arrive early and enjoy it without the crowds that show up later. It opens at 7:00AM. You have to go through security and the earlier you arrive the easier it will be. Rick Steves' self-guided tour of St.Peter's is all you really need, either the audio or the print guide.
