Boccadasse in early October

My husband's got us signed up for a food tour of Genoa with the person whose cooking classes he's been taking online during the pandemic. This is part of a month-long driving trip. I was looking for an apartment in Genoa for two or three nights, but not really excited about any of them. On a previous trip, we spent a week in Genoa and a week in Camogli in November, and loved both. The foods we ate in Genoa were some of our favorites in all of Italy.

So, what if we stayed in Boccadasse and took the bus into Genoa (20 minutes)? I've been looking at this town's shoreline on live cam for several years. I've read (and can see from photos) that it's a touristed town, but maybe it's fine in October? We enjoy towns with fishing boats, not so much towns with beaches, resorts, shopping, or pleasure boats.

Has anyone stayed in Boccadasse, either in summer or in shoulder season? I guess I'm looking for pros and cons.

Have not been there, but I of course just googled it out of curiosity. You can even walk from Genoa (about an hour)--looks perfect!

Hi nancys8:
I have been to Boccadasse many times in October. First let me say it is not a "town" but simply a neighborhood of Genoa. To be sure it is a beautiful and unique area, but it is part of Genoa. And the cove with the fishing boats is quite small--nothing like Camogli. If you walk away from the cove, it no longer looks the same but it is still characteristic. The neighborhood to the west of Boccadasse is the Albaro district which is one of the nicest areas in Genoa. Upscale, residential, and more open than other parts of Genoa. If you stay there you would not feel like you were staying in the workaday parts of Genoa. It would feel more open and, of course, there is the long, beautiful promenade along the sea.

You can certainly take a bus to the downtown area (Piazza Ferrari.) You can walk it in about 1 to 1 1/4 hours. I can't help you with apartments as we usually stay with family.

Those travelers who dislike Genoa would, I'm sure, enjoy this part of it. Good luck.
