Boats on the Tiber

Has anyone taken the roundtrip to Ostia Antiqua via the river?

Regina, I saw this and was curious about how boats were getting to Ostia Antica from Rome – because Ostia Antica is now 3 km from the river! Here’s a website that explains it!

http://www.rexervation.com/scheda_battello.asp?indice=03

If you read the fine print you see:

“The price is 13,00 € per person round trip. You can also buy a one-way ticket (for example one way from Marconi Bridge to Ostia Antica or only a return ticket from Ostia Antica to Marconi Bridge) whose price is 12,00."

So if you ride the boat, you will get to this bridge then have to make your way (or pay their 12 €)??

Having said all that, the Tiber is not the prettiest river – it’s not the Seine, or the Thames. It’s kind of muddy and brown… The trip will be dependent more on your company. We’ve been up with large groups and had great fun, but it was more the company and not the scenery.

Ron, no offense but you're misunderstanding the information about the Tiber cruise to Ostia Antica. The Marconi Bridge is in Rome, not Ostia. The one-way ticket they're talking about is if you don't want to do the boat round trip. Lots of people do the boat only one way and do the train for the other way. Ostia Antica is right on the Tiber, not 3 km away.

The cruise site reads: "There is only one daily departure at 10:00 a.m. from Marconi Bridge [in Rome], arrival in Ostia Antica at 12:00a.m. [they mean PM] Two-hour visit of the archeological sites, then return trip from Ostia Antica at 14:00p.m. arrival at Marconi Bridge at 16:30 p.m."

My bad Michael - sorry for the confusion, I've been out there three times, all by tain... and used this link as my reference - Guess I should have let my wife drag me all the way to the end of that road!

Thanks for the update, although I do not think I'll be using the boat - Metro for me!
