Rick's Italy book recommends getting to Capri early because it gets very crowded in summer. If Positano offers early departures I may stay there an extra night. If not I'm going to stay longer in Sorrento because I'm guessing Sorrento has early departures and runs more frequently. Thanks for the information, happy traveling.
athena,
This list should provide the information you're looking for.....

Be sure you're not late for the last boat back to Positano!
Thanks, Ken.
Thank you thank you thank you. I really must hang out on the forum after i return and see if I can help anyone as this has been so helpful for me. Best wishes and travel, Athena
athena,
One other point to mention. Double-check with the staff at your hotel when you arrive in Positano, in case there have been any "schedule changes" or whatever with the boats.
When you make the trip to Capri, walk down to the beach and to the right. You'll see some small booths there where you can buy tickets. The boats dock at the concrete jetty near the booths.
When you arrive at Marina Grande in Capri, you'll need to take the Funicular up to the town. Walk a short distance along the road leading from the Marina. As I recall, the ticket booth is on the right and the Funicular entrance is to the left.
One important point to mention if you're taking the Funicular back to the dock in the late afternoon to connect with the last boat. There can often be a huge queue waiting to get on the Funicular. If you think that might make you late for the boat, just take one of the distinctive convertible Taxis down to the dock (the cost will be worth it to avoid the stampede at the Funicular).
Buon Viaggio!
Thank you so much Ken. You are one well-versed traveler. I'm a little less anxious about doing this on my own now. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
athena,
Hopefully everything is still the same as I remember it. Have a great holiday!
Ken's advice to check with your hotel desk for and changes in the schedule was a good tip as it's sometimes not possible for the boats to dock there if the seas are very stormy. It's rare but been known to happen.
