I will be in Sorrento for a week mid-October and am wondering if it is better to take the bus, or a boat, or rent a driver, for the Amalfi Coast, and if you have any suggestions as to who to contact. Thanks so much!
I have taken the bus once from Sorrento to Amalfi and then took the ferry back. All the other times I have taken the ferry from Sorrento to Positano or wherever I wanted to go on the coast. The bus was not very enjoyable - crowded, hot and you really could not see much. Just the side of a cliff. On the ferry you just relaxed on a deck chair and got fabulous views of the towns as you glided by.
Lucky you, take the bus one way and take the boat back to Sorrento and follow the gorgeous coastline. If you take the bus going south, a town after Amalfi is Ravello and well worth a stop. have fun it will be wonderful.
If you take the bus going south, be sure to sit on the right. Better views.
Be aware that the coastal ferry services close down for the winter in mid October. The ferries from Sorrento to and from Capri and Naples carry on, weather permitting.
