I'm having trouble locating a boat/ferry company that transports from Sorrento to Naples. The website I found earlier in my research does not seem to offer this service any more (www.metrodelmare.net) and I am not coming up with anything on my internet search (I see Naples to Sorrento, but not the other way around). Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

It looks like this one has service from Sorrento to Naples Molo Beverello port. It's all in Italian, sorry, but you can probably figure it out:

We didn't use this service, but do think about how you will get to the pier, which is not an easy walk with luggage from anywhere in Sorrento. I'm sure the boat ride is nicer than the Circumvesuviana, but budget for taxi fare, as well as the boat tickets.

Thank you very much for the website! My computer translated some of the pages for me so I was able to navigate through it nicely.
We plan to take a day trip from Sorrento to Naples & Pompeii by taking the boat over to Naples and then train the rest of the way....making a nice loop of travel that day. I can't tell you how much those of you who contribute to this forum are helping me with my travel research!......I tell all my friends how great you are!

Now that you have an idea of schedules, you should just be able to show up at the dock and buy tickets for the next boat departing. The archeology museum in Naples is a very worthwhile stop, to see the art that came out of the Pompeii excavation.
