We will stay in Praiano in mid Sept and I'd love to take a boat over for a tour of Capri. Where shall I catch a ferry? Do they run from Positano, or will I have to go back to Sorrento? Any suggestions getting to Capri? Any advice on the island once I'm there? Thanks for your assistance!

Not sure about Praiano. But there are various companies that have boat excursions from Positano to Capri. Praiano is very close to Positano. The excursion usually includes food and visit to the Grotta Azzurra (blue grotto). I've taken one from Positano years ago. Just go to the harbor and sign up for one. For regularly scheduled public transportation (ferries/hydrofoils), I think you may have to go to Sorrento or, of course, Naples.

Hello Molly! my husband and I are also staying in Praiano in mid-sept!! we will be there from 9/21 and staying for 5 nights; then on to Sorrento for the last 3 nights before we fly home to MD...THere is so much info out there on things like this; we use RS, and Tripadvisor, or just Google in general and go from there; we've planned our whole 18 day trip ourselves! Of course this is our 3rd trip to italy!!

If you are staying in Praiano (pronounced, pry-AHN-oh), you can go down to the local spiaggia (beach) and buy a ticket for a boat ride. We took a day trip to Capri and booked with La Sibilla (on of several companies providing the service). Do it a day or two ahead of time because they book quickly. If you happen to be staying at one of the local hotels in Praiano, they should be able to help you book the trip as well. Enjoy!
