I am planning a September trip to Italy with friends. We will be spending several days in Cinque Terre (either Monterosso or Vernazza. I am considering a day trip to Portifono and thought it would be fun to go by water. Are there ferries that offer passage or do I need to book a tour or private boat. I am hoping for an easy and afforable option. I dont mind doing the boat one way and taking a train back if necessary.
Thank you!
The CT ferry only goes one larger town on either side which means Levanto in the north and La Spezia in the south.
Here is the site for the Portofino ferry in general: https://traghettiportofino.it/en
I think your best bet would seem to be to go Sestri Levante or Chiavari by train and catch a ferry from there since the service seems days and month dependent.
There is an occasional Line 4 ferry that runs some days but you would need to want to go on the right day and probably one way:

This is not a recommendation but this is a company that does coastal tours but their tour passes Portofino and you would need to make your way back.

The coastline is beautiful if you can make the schedule work,

The Cinque Terre ferry also stops at Portovenere, the village south of the CT. A very pretty village and less crowded.
Our experience with the ferry (in August) was that it frequently didn’t operate because of weather. Perhaps I am thinking of a different service.
