My husband & I will be in Italy over our birthdays. Already this is a great way to spend a birthday, but we also want to pick out something special to do on the actual day. We will be in Orvieto that day & night with a possible day trip by car to Civita di Bagnoregio. Does anyone have any recommendations for memorable activity & restaurant in this area?
Hey Lindsay,
When are your birthdays? My best friend and I are going to Europe for our birthdays in March. Mine is the 25th and I decided that Orvieto with a day trip to Civita di Bagnoregio was how I wanted to spend my birthday. So it was nice to see someone else thought the same thing. I don't have any recommendations since this will be my first time to Civita. Happy Birthday to the two of you and have a safe trip.
What a great way to spend your birthday! There are two sources we use for restaurants in Italy: "Eating in Italy," by Faith Willinger (north only, down to but not including Lazio) and "Italy for the Gourmet Traveler," by Fred Plotkin. The latter has been more recently updated; and, I checked, it has more listings for Orvieto. Both books have much more than eatery listings. They describe in detail the food and wine of the region, and they list food-related establishments such as cooking schools, markets, wine shops, cooking supply stores, etc. BTW, we don't carry these heavy volumes with us; we photocopy the relevant sections for our trips. And yeah, we're unreconstructed Berkeley foodies and proud!
