BIRTHDAY in Rome, Italy

Hi everyone -

I'm trying to plan a birthday for the boyfriend. I like fancier birthdays and like activities that are not everyday (i.e., helicopter rides, Michelin restaurants, etc.) and are unique to the location. Does anyone have any restaurant suggestions and/or other activities? He also likes shopping for good bargains.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri Hotel, just outside of Rome, has a Michelin three star restaurant in it called La Pergola. Perhaps you could dine there.

La Pegola of the Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri Hotel, that is in Rome (and not outside Rome, even if it is not really in the center) is one of the best italian restaurant and for sure the best in Rome, beautiful view from the roof of the hotel on the center. Please consider that a budget of 500 euros should be estimated for a 2 people dinner

Yes, you're correct La Pergola is in Rome but it's no where near the city center. In fact, the shuttle from the hotel into the city takes a half an hour. The OP can use the shuttle or take a taxi, which ever is easiest.

I contacted La Pergola and apparently theyre not open August 9-24. It's the restaurants holiday or something.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Check out the roof top restaurant Imago at The Hassler hotel. Friends went recently and loved it. It's Michelin starred. My husband and I went to Il Convivio Troiani a few years ago and it was by far the most over-rated Michelin starred restaurant we have been to. The next night we went to The Library Bistrot and had the best meal of that trip in a terribly romantic setting. While not totally unique, the rooftop bar thing in Rome is a special thing to do. My faves are at the Hotel Fortyseven and Hotel Forum, which has an old school drinks menu if you like that sort of thing. There's also quite a bar/music scene in Testaccio that I loved. It's been a few years since I have been so check out social media for what's what as I'm sure it has all changed but most likely in the same neighborhood.
