Birth of Rome Celebration details

My family will visit Italy the first time during the second half of April. I just found out that April 21 is the Birth of Rome and based on some website the celebration will be held on Sunday April 19th with parade and other activities. The website also points out that the museums and city parks will be free. I want to plan accordingly, but can't find more details with Google search.

Can someone help me with the following questions:
1. About the free museum entrance, is it true? If yes, the free day is on 19th or 21st? Which museums are free?
2.About the celebration activities, how to find out the detailed schedule (time and location)? If this years's schedule has not been posted, is it possible to find out last year's schedule for reference?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just some advice about free museum days: everyone local wants to visit then, in addition to tourists. No reservations are usually accepted on free days, so prepare for crowds and lines. I would concentrate on the less popular museums on free days.

Perhaps Quirite will see your post and have more information. As for schedules of events, you could contact your hotel for information.

Here's the website for Natale di Roma:

http://www.natalidiroma.it/2015/index_NdR2015_eng.html

It's not a lot of information but what has been published so far. Unless I'm missing something, the site doesn't indicate that any of the major museums will be free that day. We need Quirite to confirm but it's possible that some may have been in the past but have been replaced with the state museums' free first Sundays (initiated July of 2014). As Zoe said, the crowds are fierce and lines are long on ticketless days so it's not worth fighting the mob.

There are seven civic museums in Rome which can be visited for free:

An eighth - Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi - will also be free as of March 30th.

Kathy, thanks a lot for the link! There are enough details to help me plan.
I agree with you both about the crowd on free museum days, but I was hoping that the celebration activities can attract enough crowd from museums :) I'll follow Zoe's suggestion and ask hotel to confirm the free museum entrance. Thank you both!

You're welcome, Sherrie. Full Information about events often tends to be posted later rather than sooner where Rome/Italy is concerned so keep your eye on the website.

But my guess is that Natale di Roma events will not make squat bit of difference regarding crowds at the major museums - should any of those be free at all. The vast majority of tourists won't be aware of any special goings-on, nor will the many escorted tour groups be changing their itineraries.

The Galleria Borghese requires reservations on Free Sundays, so crowds won't be any worse then.

Again, thank you both. I don't think "Free" day applies to Galleria Borghese since I need to pay full price to reserve.

On a separate topic, we will be in Venice during April 25th Liberation Day. Will the boat service run as usual, or reduced schedule? I was planning to go to Murano, Burano and Lido, but there is no special mentioning about holiday schedule on Vaporetto website. Can I assume that normal schedule on that day?

What about the celebration activities? Does it worth to fight the crowd for it? Or it's better to stick to my original plan to the nearby islands?

Sherrie, I'm not sure you need to pay full price for your tickets. We didn't pay for anything in advance until we arrived with our vouchers to pick up our tickets. I'm not 100% sure (as free Sundays didn't start until after our last trip) but I'm thinking on free days that it's possible that your vouchers serve as reservations for your time slot with no ticket cost applied. Or maybe just the small € 2.00 reservation fee.
