Biking on Appian Way

So many mixed reveiws on this but my final questions.
Somewhere I read (have read so much) the most interesting section is between miles 3-11. Not clear where that is. Bus leaves you close to Church of Domine Quo Vadis. It is only 1.3 kilometers to St. Sebastian Catacombs along a nice path, but what after that? Are we not on a narrow road with cars? I am an experienced biker but prefer only brief times on busy streets. We will be going on Sunday and understand even on Sunday there is limited traffic. Also I believe there is a dirt path for bikes-is it here, beyond St. Sebastian and how long does it last? I am in charge of this day with friends and I sense a hesitancy about biking parts of this, 1.3 km we can easily walk but I was looking forward to a much longer stretch.
Thanks

Traffic on Sunday is restricted to buses, taxis, and few local cars. Far, far better than the other days. Three to 11 are mile markers. The higher the number the further from Rome and the area between 3 and 11 is the most scenic. I would only rent bikes if you were going to ride the 3 to 11 and further south. The catacombs are further north (closer to mile 2) so I would walk to the catacombs because you don't need a bike in that area and only rent if riding further south. The road is very narrow from 1 to 3 mile marker. Quo Vadis is at roughly mile marker 1 at the beginning of the Appian Way. I would take bus 660 which stops at mile marker 3, the bike rental place, and then short walk north to the catacombs. You have a number of options.
