Hello! I'm planning a trip to Venice for this summer. There are four people in our group and we would like to spend a day biking. Ideally we would like to do a day trip biking outside the city and see some countryside. If anyone has advice or recommendations on where to go or where to rent bikes, it would be most appreciated. We would like to begin and end in Venice, all in one day, if possible. Thank you!
You're not likely to find a bike rental place in Venice proper, since, like cars, no bikes are allowed on most of the island. You might try searching for bike rentals in Mestre, the city on the mainland side of Venice.
We rode the vaporetto over to Lido and rented bikes there for a nice half-day ride.
For something longer, you might look inot the Brenta Canal. I believe there is a bike path along it, although I couldn't find anything really specific on the web. Here is one bike-tour company's description of a day's cycling:
"From San Marcos Square boat to the mouth of the Brenta Canal where we meet to bike along the quiet villa-laden Brenta Canal where countless palaces, mansions and villas lead us to the illustrious 114-room Villa Pisani, the Versailles of Italy."
Sounds like fun.
Thank you for the advice, this really helps. I was hoping we could bike along the Brenta Canal and it sounds like it is possible. I did not know bikes were banned on the island. I guess we will start on the mainland.
