While in Florence, we're looking at one-day trips biking in Chianti region. Has anyone experienced iBikeTuscany? other tour groups? Wondered if it would less traffic during the weekends vs week days. Thanks in advance for any input!
My husband took a bike tour on a Monday while we were staying at Hotel Dali in Florence. You could try e-mailing Marco and see if he would forward the name/info to you. He is super helpful!
You probably will want to compare prices, but you might check www.cicloposse.com We have used them 2x now in Italy..not for one day adventures, but for 7-10day bike tours, but they do offer ONE DAY trips as well.
They were great, and we will use them again. Check out their website for info, and email them with questions.
I used this company:
http://www.tuscany-biketours.com/
cut and paste it into your browser. It has gone up 15 euros since I did it in 2008 (paid 60 euros). I really enjoyed it and thought it was a good value. It included transportation from Florence, a tour of the castle, wine and oil tasting at the castle, the bike ride, lunch, more bike ride and a water bottle to take home with you. The lunch was wonderful. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I have recommended them to others and got good "thank you "notes from several who did it. I bike Tuscany is quite a bit more expensive (the 100 euro ride-and others- do not include lunch, other rides that do are 120 euros per person) Be sure you compare what each offers. I can't do a direct comparison, since I only used one. They both get excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. I stayed in the Greve area where I bike Tuscany does many of their tours. It was very beautiful, but so is area where "Tuscany bike" tours. It appears I bike tuscany spends more time in larger towns, our ride was mostly out in the countryside. (if you want to shop for souvenirs-do I bike Tuscany) Our tour was 13 miles. There was one big hill towards the end-but you can put your bike on the trailer and ride up in the van (I was 51 at the time and rode up, however I do a lot of mountain biking) Great day. Have fun whatever you decide.
While traveling alone through Florence a couple of years I decided that I would try a bike tour. It was just what a lonely traveler needed. I had a BLAST, beautiful scenery, good company, good wine and food, and a charming and funny Irish tour guide. I used Tuscany Bike Tours. They offered 1 day tours through Chiant ( right outside of Florence), with stops to a winery with lunch included, the cost was around 60 Euros. I highly recommend them.
