Biking in Turin (or stick to public transport)

We'll be in Turin in late September and some of the sites we'd like to see, such as the auto museum, would be a bit of a hike. Is Turin a good city for getting around on bike? If so, would you recommend a bike share? Or just rent a bike? We'd prefer e-bikes, btw.

If public transport is a better option, is the Citymapper app a good choice? We really haven't used much public transportation in cities.

Where are you staying? The only metro line goes from the city center to Eataly, 10 minutes away from the auto museum. You don't really need an app to use the metro in Turin.

Thank you, Dario.

We're staying on Via Guiseppe Barbaroux. I'm sure we can find the metro Line.

Both bike and transit are good choices. For biking the urban area is flat and the roadways are generally wide. The public transit system in Turin is extensive and well integrated with metro, tram, and bus lines. The main website is in both IT and EN: https://www.gtt.to.it/cms/en/

I can't speak about Turin directly but the Google Maps "Transit" option has worked well for me in other Northern Italian cities to find bus, tram and other connections when trying to find your way around the city.

My only warning is that when you try from America be aware you may searching in the middle of the night so set a realistic time of departure.

Have a great trip,

As one would expect Torino is bike friendly. This site http://www.comune.torino.it/bici/ has a trip planner (Muoversi in Bici section) and there's a bike sharing program (Non Hai Un Bici section). Looks like one can bike to the Auto Museum along the river.

One aspect of Turin that surprised me was the lack of stop signs at intersections in parts of the urban grid system of one-way streets. The driver on the right has the right of way and they don't slow down as they fully expect the driver on the left to yield. Definitely wouldn't work in Boston.

I just returned from a trip that included Turin. Transit options were plentiful and easy to use. I did use Google maps "transit" for planning and was able to get everywhere I wanted to without any issues. That being said, there were many people using bikes to get around as well. One tour guide did warn our group that if we planned to bike in the city, we should take care as cars and people on foot did not always pay attention, but that seems like good advice for bicyclists and pedestrians in any city. Enjoy your trip!
