Biking around Ravenna

Has anyone had experience renting a bike for a day to experience Ravenna. RS recommends this mode of transportation, so I thought I'd consider it. I am planning a day or overnight excursion to Ravenna from Rome this fall. Thanks!

I was there for two days in winter, so I wasn't ready to bike around in the rain, but if I ever go back, I will do that for sure. It's all flat, so it's easy biking, even out of town to Classe to see Sant' Apollinare (a WOW). I walked everywhere (all the sights are very close together) except for the bus to Classe. Biking will save you a little time and let you see a bit more of this charming town.

As Chani said, Appolinare is definitly worth a visit if you get to Ravenna.

I think biking is the way to go then. Thanks! I am a graduate student in art history and have been studying/reading about/teaching the sites in and around Ravenna for years. I'm super excited!!

In that case, try to do an overnight. There is too much for a single day if you want to see and appreciate all the sites. And binoculars are a must!

Do consider staying at the hostel in Ravenna. Its a bit away from the core but I really liked staying there. Nice staff, neat clean rooms and a wonderful buffet breakfast. I also try and make it the mid point on my trips as the hostel is a good place to catch up on laundry (fairly cheap). Bikes are everywhere in Ravenna.. I would like to tool around on one some afternoon.
