Bikes in Rome

Was in Rome for 1 week with my daughter in December. Noticed about 10 locations around the city with bikes you can checkout at accessible bike stands. You have to sign up through the city. Next time I go I will use this program. In general I would say that Rome would be a dangerous place to cycle, but as I was waking up at 3am anyway, the streets were deserted and it would be quite fun. Bring your own helmets and locks.

I found Rome very crowded and hard to cross the street until later times at night. I believe biking at 3 am in Rome would be the perfect time to do it, but not before 8-9 PM.

I saw those rent-a-bike racks around the city as well yesterday and I wondered how anyone could get around safely on a bike. But your idea of going around early in the morning is great! I will have to try that next trip! The sites lit up at night are very gorgeous!

Just don't assume people will stop at red lights at that time of night. Because there is little traffic, drivers blow right through red lights without even slowing.
