Rick Steves' Italy 2026. I don't want to lug that big book all over Italy but wondering if anyone had experience with the Kindle version to share? Is it a good alternative?

The Kindle version is the better choice for sure if you're going to take a Kindle on the trip anyway for the flights. It reads fine and is a good resource.
If not, you have other options:
- buy the book, read the whole thing, and tear out just the sections you need to bring on the trip
- if you're going on a RS tour, you'll get the book for free. If you are traveling independently, you can check the book out of the library to do all your pre-trip reading
I generally bring the paper book with me, but rarely use it. I will have already made a page or two of notes, and I use my phone on the trip (or ask locals) to find best restaurants, confirm museum info, etc. I always think I'm going to need the book but then I don't.

I use all of my RS guides on kindle, Can’t bear to carry heavy paperbacks. I bookmark and highlight heavily so I can quickly find items I want to reference.

When I go on a RS tour that includes a guidebook, I pare down the book immensely to just the pages I want during the trip. It’s easy to remove them by bending the binding and slicing with a knife. Rick sells a little folder the dimensions of the front cover to slide in the pages you want to bring along.
