how can I warn others not to be "ripped off" by a certain restaurant in Rome right outside of the Vatican? Seems that the majority of patrons shared the same experience as we---not pleasant!
I will reply to my own question to hopefully help others not to endure what we and many others endured. Beware of the "Caffe Sant' Anna" restaurant located not far from the Vatican in Rome! We (4 of us) had a very modest lunch consisting of sandwiches, drinks, and 3 gelatos. The "prices" were posted, but false. Many people "waited" on us, causing much confusion (later discovered by design). We got our ticket for 107 euros!! As we were eating, we witnessed others having the same problem, & later talked with others who had eaten there with the same experience! Please do not eat there, or suffer the same consequence!!
Why not post a review on somewhere like Tripadvisor? That way it will remain available for others to see. The name and address of the place is;
Café Sant Anna, Borgo PIO 100 Roma
The reason I know about this place is that we went there despite knowing about the prices etc. This was because my OH refused to go a step further and said "I do not care about the cost, I just want to sit down and have something to drink!"
I'm sorry that happened to you. Did you call the police? I would have and refused to pay. This happened to a couple from Japan last year (I don't believe it was the same restaurant) and the local authorities got involved.

I read in a smilar post that when you know you've been overcharged just leave the correct amount as indicated on the menu and leave without looking back. If they stop you just tell them to call the police. They will most likely not pursue the issue.
Sorry about your unfortunate experience. Before we ever visited the Vatican for the first time 10 years ago I heeded advice to avoid any restaurant in that area.
