My son and I are going from Venice to Cinque Terre, but we'd love to stop someplace in between (somewhere accessible by train) that would be ideally:
1. in or near a smallish village
2. have nearby activities such as horseback riding, canoing, biking
3. even more ideally, have access to cooking classes or pottery/sculpture, etc.
Any suggestions?? We'd be there about 4 days, and we're leaving Venice in a couple of days!
Venice to CT by train will take you through either Milan/Genova or Bologna/La Spezia. I would recommend the higher speed trains such as the Eurostar (ES), EuroCity (EC) or InterCity (IC). These are faster and have fewer stops. The train leg from Bologna to La Spezia does go through Parma and Modena. Be careful about getting of a train where you have assigned seats for the route. Once you get off, those tickets won't get you back on. This can all work, you just have to plan carefully and plan for getting off. Aside from this information above, I am not familiar with any smallish villages or activities you desire along the way. We took a cooking class but it was in Florence.
