between Matera and Rome

Exploring options for after RS Sicily tour in November. Thinking about flying to Bari then visiting Alberobello for trulli and Matera for sassi. Will probably rent a car and have 5 days to spend. Would fly home from FCO. Have been to Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii, Paestum and Rome. We are good with touring enroute and one night stays. Where to add between Matera and Rome?

There's more to see in Puglia than the trulli, though the tiny seaside towns might be dead in November. Lecce's a sizable Baroque town that is worth at least a full day. If you Google for its tourist office you'll find some info on van tours that hit a lot of smaller towns in the area. That might give you some ideas. But you really need a guidebook that covers Puglia.

Is that four nights or six? I would base at a little B&B (Podere Papilio) about 10 minutes' drive from Alberobello and visit a couple of towns from there, 2-3 nights. Then go to Matera for 2-3 nights, I think you will enjoy the city itself, and you can visit a couple of other places (Altamira, for example). Walk through the sassi but also drive out to Le Murgie, the ridge on the other side of the sassi.
