Better to travel to Venice, Florence, Rome in middle or late May?

I am trying to decide when the best time to travel to Venice, Florence and Rome based on these three criteria: weather that is pleasant -- not too hot less crowds -- but not empty, either cheaper airfare I want to go either in: middle May
late May very early June Thanks for your help Ruth

weather is unpredictable but you can check weather.com for daily average temperatures for May/June. crowds will be less in middle May than early June, crowds tend to pickup around Memorial Day but V-F-R have tourists year round
airfare might be a little cheaper in May than June but it might not be cheaper at all, airfares to Europe are currently high so watch daily for deals

Ruth, earlier rather than later; last year in mid-May/early June it was chilly and rainy part of the time, check weather and pack accordingly, and have a great time.

As a wise person once said, "The plural of anecdote is not data." You will definitely want to check out weather.com to see historical data, as opposed to what someone's experience was in any particular year. Just imagine trying to predict what weather is going to be like this May in Seattle based only on one year. Doesn't work. Happy travels.

Well I vote for middle of May but, pardon the expression, weather wise it's a crap shoot. For all three cities May is considered "high season" I believe. At any rate we go in either May or October and usually have a mix of weather. Trust me, whenever you go these cities are anything but empty. Just dress in layers and have a waterproof wind breaker and travel umbrella. Hey, we're sweet as sugar but we don't melt!

Airfare typically goes up in late May / early June. I'd price out the flights for your different options; that may drive your decision.
