Best way to travel to Amalfi Coast?

We will be flying into Rome spending the night and then traveling to Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri and Positano/Amalfi Coast for 4-5 days. I have several questions, hope someone can help?

Want to store luggage while traveling south is there a place at the airport?
Don't want to rent a car for the trip south, is it best to do a train to Pompeii, then Sorrento then a ferry to Positano Amalfi coast and then a train back to Rome? Can you provide best place to find ferry and train info?

Love to hear suggestions on hotels in respective areas?

Thank so much...

I am not sure what you mean about storing luggage, I would just be likely to take it with you, unless this is a smaller part to an overall trip. There likely is a left luggage at the airport, but not cheap. If you were returning to Rome for a night or two, maybe the hotel you stay at would hold your bags.

As for transport, take the train. You really do not want a rental car in the Naples/Amalfi area anyway. My plan would be to take the train to Naples, switch to the Circumvesuvia train and take that to Sorrento. Stay most nights in Sorrento, from there you can vist Pompeii, day trip to Capri, and even visit Naples. You can also daytrip the Amalfi coast by bus, but if you wish, relocate to Positano or another town for a night or two. When done, bus or ferry to Salerno (or Naples) to return to Rome by train.

I agree with Paul... Stay in Sorrento!! Take the fast train to Naples from Rome ( http://www.italiarail.com/ ) That's 1 hour 10 minutes. Then take the Circumvesuvian train to Sorrento. This is as far as the train will take you. If you wanted to continue to a hotel further south you would need to take a ferry or bus. I'm going in May and we're staying in Sorrento for 4 nights and taking day trips to Capri, Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. You definitely do not want to drive. We found a place with excellent reviews. It's centrally located in Sorrento close to the train, bus and ferry. http://www.villaelisasorrento.com/english/ Here's the website but there are lots of great options in Sorrento if you book asap. I've heard many great reviews on this forum for Hotel Il Lido too. Here's their website and tripadvisor reviews http://www.ilnido.com/ + http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187782-d205448-Reviews-Il_Nido_Hotel_Sorrento-Sorrento_Province_of_Naples_Campania.html
Have fun!!

You can leave luggage at Roma Termini for several days, look for "Deposito Baggagli" or an icon of a suitcase. I prefer the Amalfi Coast to Sorrento, but for daytrips to Naples, Capri, Pompeii, Ercolano, Sorrento is more convenient.
