Best way to travel from Rome to Val d'Orcia

Hello,

I am trying to collect information on the best way to travel from Rome to Val d'Orcia. We are likely starting our trip in Rome, and then work our way through Val d'Orcia, to Florence. Is it better to rent a car, hire a private driver, or take a train? So far, it seems like we would like to visit Pienza, Siena, and Montecello while in Val d'Orcia. Thanks,

Jason

You need a car while there. There are no trains that can take you to those hilltowns and buses are not frequent, especially outside of commute hours and on weekends.

You have two choices for a rental car:
1. Rent the car in Rome and drive there (about 2 hours)
2. Take the train to CHIUSI-CHIANCIANO and rent the car in the town of Chiusi, which has rent a car offices from the major rental companies (not open on Sat afternoon and all day Sunday however). Chiusi is a short drive from the Val d’Orcia.

check
www.autoeurope.com, a consolidator, for rental options with major companies at a great price.

Private car with driver is another option but it will cost you hundreds of dollars per day.
