Best Way To Travel From Milan to Laglio (Lake Como) 4 Adults and 1 Toddler

We are traveling from Milan to Laglio and then Varenna in September. What would be the easiest route and transportation to get to these destinations? I am worried about having a toddler and all the necessary luggage. We will pack as light as possible. Should we rent a car for the week from Milan or what would you suggest?

Train from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni, then the C10 or C20 bus to Laglio.

I can’t find Laglio on a map of Lake Como. Where is it? We have spent a lot of time on the lake but can’t find it. Once in Varenna you don’t need a car. How long are you in Varenna? If a short time, like four days, then just park the car in Varenna.

Found it, way south on the lake, near Como.. Train to Como, them a taxi to Laglio?
Ferry from Como to Varenna.

To get from Laglio to Varenna, take the C10 bus further north to Menaggio and cross on the mid-lake shuttle boat.

If you do that route, confirm that you can take the car on the Lake Como car ferries. Its a long way around from Laglio to Varenna by land.

Below is the bus timetable

The bus line going from Como to Laglio is either C10 or C20
All buses originate from the ASF Bus station which is located in front of the COMO LAGO train station.
Some of those buses also stop at the COMO SAN GIOVANNI train station.
The bus ride is about 20-25 min.
If you have substantial luggage you could also consider a taxi, which can take you there in 15 min but will cost you at least 30-35 euro.
Unfortunately the ferry does not dock at Laglio.

Renting a car is an option, but not sure you’ll need it. You certainly do not need it in Varenna, but maybe you could use it in Laglio, to get around since there is no ferry dock and you’d be stuck in town. The cost would be significant however since nowadays a car large enough for 4 and 1/2 people would cost you at least $100 a day to rent.
But maybe you are George Clooney under disguise trying to reach his villa in Laglio, in which case money is not an issue, and maybe you could consider a private boat taxi from Como, or even a helicopter from Milan (there in a helipad in Argegno, north of Laglio, but maybe the park at Villa Oleandra is large enough for a helicopter.

Hahahahaha🤣 Thank you for your response. Looks like I’ll have to call George to pick us up. I was trying not to bother him😁

Roberto must have a secret supplier. Looking for a 6 passenger van ( Milan) in Sept is $350+ per day is what I see.

With a toddler in a car seat, there is no way you can sit 3 across, so a 5 passenger vehicle is not an option, especially when you have to factor the baggage.

Joe is right. Didn't think about the baby car seat. Also the Italian law is rather complicated depending on age and height and weight of the toddler to determine the type of seat required, so that would make the rental even more problematic.

Taxi cabs are exempt from the infant car seat law requirements, so you will be fine with a taxi mini-van which you can certainly find in front of the Como San Giovanni station (the main station) as you can see in this image
