Best way to travel from CT to Milan for an afternoon flight

Four of us will be staying in Manarola for 3 nights and then leaving to catch a 2:25p flight from Milan.
I know there are trains and buses to get us there, but am having some difficulty putting a plan in place.
One option would be to take the train, but the schedule is showing a 4 hour trip, and I'm assuming we need to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of our flight to Paris.

Everyone here has always been very helpful, so I'm reaching out again!

Thanks!

I'd go to Milan the night before and not the day of the flight. It is too risky.
For example two weeks ago there was a rail worker strike the same day I was due to fly out of Milan.
Also, in two trips to Italy over the last 10 months the trains running grossly behind schedule 99% of the time; this is enough to ruin a vacation if you want or absolutely need to be somewhere on time.

It’s too far a trip time wise unless you have a rental car. I agree, go to Milan the night before.

Looking at the Trenitalia site it shows the earliest departure from Manarola at 7:17 arriving Milan Central at 10:38.
The next Malpensa Express is at 10:55, arriving the airport at 11:46

If you get to Milan a bit late and miss the 10:55 train the next one is at 11:25 with a 12:16 airport arrival.

The best case scenario gives less than 3 hrs time.

Not in my comfort zone.

If you're heading for a transatlantic flight, the idea of spending the last night in Cinque Terre is way too risky for me. Buying a day-of-travel one-way ticket home would probably be a four-figure expense per person.

Kevin, looking at your past posts, I've a hunch that Paris is not a merely connection for a transatlantic flight to the States? That you're purposely going to there for sightseeing? From a distance standpoint, meaning the distance from Manarola to Malpensa, I guess it really doesn't matter as I wouldn't want to be that far away unless willing to eat the flight cost should you miss it.

What with any number of wrenches in the transport machinery these days, having multiple options close at hand, such as airport bus and express train shuttles, or even taxi from central Milan is preferable to remote Manarola and few if any options should the train fail you.

Safe to assume you've checked flights from Genoa and Pisa?

Actually, I've been looking at flights IN to Milan and quite a few with a starting point of Seattle connect thru CDG or AMS so perhaps that is true for other West Coast flights.

Hi Kathy, you are correct, we are headed to Paris for 6 days. I'm looking into both train and rental car as options to get from Manarola to Milan's Linate airport. We could pick up the train at 6:11am that connects in Genoa to Milan Centrale arriving 10am, then a 10 minute cab ride to Linate. That gets us there with time to spare for our flight. I agree, I'm looking at backup plans in case something goes wrong. I've booked a rental car from Genoa so we could just drive to Linate.

As for flights I've looked at flying from Milan, Pisa, and Turin, with Milan having the best options. Genoa has very limited options so can't just fly out of there...

You folks are all amazing with you advice and knowledge!!

Many thanks!

Update:
Changed the flight to Paris to depart 4:40pm, which provides more breathing room, after reading about ITA vs. easyJet.

Thanks for the advice!
