I am planning to travel with my husband and son in April.
We are planning to fly into Milan from USA and take a train to Florence and need suggestions as to how to travel countryside by car or train. We do want a day or night in chianti region. We don't want to spend more than 2 days in florence. Please advise
I wouldn't drive in Italy, but plenty do/have. That said, my suggestion would be rail and bus. The busses in Siena (and maybe Florence) can take you to several Chianti towns but I don't think rail will. Lucca and Siena would top my list of other things to see in Tuscany. Biking the city walls in Lucca and the duomo/Il Campo in Siena were highlights of our trip. If you bus it to/from Siena, the bus from Florence arrives/departs in the city center, the train and busses to hill towns depart on the outskirts, with city busses to take you in between.
