Best way to see Tuscan countryside for a day?

My mom, sister and I are going to Italy next week and are staying in Florence for three days. We don't know if we will have time for it, but we are considering taking a day trip outside the city to see the countryside a little. What's the best way to do this? We have looked into going to Siena or Lucca, either by bus or with a tour, but I'm wondering if we'll see much country this way. I just want to get a few glimpses of the beautiful country I've seen in pictures!

the 70 minute bus ride to Siena is pretty and goes right past the American cemetary 5 mile South of Florence.

The train ride over to Lucca also features a little countyside.

Grayline has a tour one-day tour from Florence to both San Gimignano and Siena. San G. is a very scenic hill town.

You have one hour at San G. and about 4hrs in Siena. The Siena visit includes to guided tour and free time for lunch.

My wife and I took this tour. If you want more information, send me a message and I'll provide it.
