Best way to see the Amalfi Coast on a budget

Hi!
Anyone advice for the Amalfi Coast? I have about 4 days and 3 nights to visit from and back to Rome. I'm an 18-year old college student and I'll be in Italy on the last week of my 5-week trip in June. I figured out that I'll be pretty tired and that I much rather spend more time down South than in Rome. I'm on a tight budget so I'm really looking for something not too expensive (hostels...). So if anyone can give me ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

I know Rick recommend to take Sorrento as a base and to go to Naples and Amalfi from there. I should also add that I don't really want to go to Pompeii. I'm sure it's really interesting and all but probably too crowded or a hot summer day after a few weeks of traveling.

Sorrento is the best base and take bus trips out.
Or Salerno, there is also a hostel/hotel just outside of Amalfi that RS recommends in his bk. in general this coastal area is pricey for lodging.

We spent 5 days in Amalfi - two nights in Sorrento (one daytrip to Capri, one to Pompei), and three nights in Positano. In Sorrento we stayed at Ostello le Sirene for €18/night (just okay). There is an amazing hostel in Positano called Hostel Brikette. Very clean, great views, friendly staff. www.brikette.com
We paid about €20/night. Food in Positano is expensive, but we ate for about €15/day. The hostel provides breakfast, there are several places to get a light lunch, and we had some amazing dinners for around €8-10. Try Da Constatino for dinner (just up the stairs from the hostel.) We got a lot of good suggestions from Let's Go Italy. If you want to explore Amalfi or other towns on the coast, the bus is VERY cheap. A few euros will get you to Amalfi, Ravello, etc.
