We will be going to the Amalfi coast very soon. We are booked for a day tour in a van, but would also like to see the coast from the water. We looked at Viator offerings but some of the reviews say that there were terrible fumes from the motor of the boat, or that there was no cover from the sun for all those hours. Does anyone know of a good boat tour that has some cover and no noxious fumes? Maybe a bigger boat? Or are there regular boats that run along the coast that one can ride without signing up for a tour?

There are ferries that service the Amalfi coast. Fairly simple to do a boat tour on your own.
We plan to do some town hopping via ferry while there next month

The ferries are great! They are large, have bathrooms; you can sit inside or out. Ferries arrive and depart from Positano, Amalfi and Salerno on a regular basis (depending on weather). The view from the water is the same as if you were on a smaller boat, I feel.
