I will be flying from Houston to Italy to board a cruise leaving from Rome next May. I was thinking of flying into Naples May 14, getting settled, maybe go to Veiled Christ sculpture, walk around Naples a bit : Santa Lucia, Historical district, eat lots of pizza, and then the next day go to Archeologic Museum, see whatever else I can, then take train to Rome May 16 for 2 days before leaving eve of May 18 on the cruise. Is this the best way to do this? I don't think flying into Rome, then train back and forth to Naples seems good. Any suggestions for things need to see in Naples? Thank you fellow explorers!
Have you been to Rome before? If not, give it at least four days.
Hi,
Could you add an extra day? That would give you enough time to go to Pompeii if you wanted. Or a little more time in Rome. But it's possible do do as you suggest. There are frequent fast (about one hour) trains between Naples and Roma Termini, so you can get to Rome by late morning on May 16. On the 18th, you'll probably leave by noon/early afternoon if you're taking the train to Civitavecchia. That's between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on the train, but still plenty of time to board the cruise.
Happy planning!
