Best way to see Naples, Amalfi Coast and Isle of Capri in 6-7 days, July 2026?

We will have 6 (maybe 7) days to spend in Naples, Amalfi Coast & Isle of Capri July 6-12, 2026. (We have never been to that area, and yes, WE KNOW it will be hot, expensive, and touristy!)

What is the best route, keeping in mind the last day should be an overnight stay in Naples, as we will fly out of Naples. What cities should we stay in (we are doing only Airbnb) and is it best to see the AC from just a boat trip?

There are 6 of us - me, my husband, two daughters and their significant others, and we are all cut from the same cloth, so moving fast and staying in a city for a day or 2 is practical for us and doable; as we did it once before in central and northern Italy.

Looking forward to suggestions!

We need to know what all you wish to see, as more time could be warranted in Naples for sightseeing. If it’s just relaxation/beauty (la dolce vita) you are after, then I’d split it between Capri and one of the Amalfi villages, finish in Naples.

Agreed, we need to know your priorities. If you want to be moving every other day, you could do an Amalfi Coast stay, then Capri, and then Naples for 2 nights each, but that doesn't sound very fun to me. Do you HAVE to stay on Capri? Because you could do that as a day trip from many places, narrowing down your movements (I would say only one movement for a trip less than a week would be great).

My thought would be to base in a town with frequent ferries (so you wouldn't have to take so many buses), so maybe 4-5 nights in Amalfi (if the AC is your priority) and then 2-3 nights in Naples.

Day trips you could do from Amalfi:
to Bomerano to do the Path of the Gods (staying in Amalfi, you could get the EARLY bus and hopefully be able to get a seat on the bus!)
Positano
Ravello
Capri
Salerno/Vietri
Paestum (could combine with a Salerno/Vietri day)

Daytrips from Naples (though there are many things to do in Naples proper):
Pompeii
Herculaneum/Vesuvius
Caserta
Ischia

I would see what things you actually want to do and then base in the cities for that number + 1 for the nights (as 2 nights gives you one full day somewhere). I know you like to "go go go", but even for fast traveling people, changing cities/home bases takes up valuable sightseeing time. It would be way better to have a full day to go visit a point of interest than to use all your time with the logistics of moving everything you have.

Capri can be a day trip from Naples and Amalfi Coast on a Hydrofoil. The ride was fast and fun.

Capri has been ruled out. We will have 6 days in the AC. I'd like to know which place is a good home base to ferry to the other places in the AC. Our priorty as you ask, is just to explore Sorrento, Amalfi town, Atrani, Positano, Praiano. Which ones can be done for a couple/few hours and which ones need a full day or two? Thank you for your input!

In that case, choose a village on the ferry line: https://www.travelmar.it/en/index
In addition, I always consider Atrani also as it is just a short walk to Amalfi.
There is not a lot to do in any of these small villages, it's more about enjoying the views and such, so I would choose based on accommodations. I think you can omit Sorrento, which is better as a base if you want to also see Naples, Capri, and Pompeii, etc.
You will probably want to be in Naples the last night unless you have a flight very late in the day. I would not rely on public transport to get me to the airport in a tight timeline in July.

Sorrento is not on the Amalfi Coast, but if you want to go over there you might be going against traffic, so that's a plus!

Amalfi and Atrani are practically the same town, just a bit of walk between......you could do both in one day.

I actually can't remember if I have been to Praiano.
Positano is a steep shopping street with expensive things. You could go REALLY SLOW and manage to get a reservation for a beach club and maybe do that a whole day?

There's gonna be a lot of "wandering around and looking at things" if you have 6 days on the coast. I would also suggest a trip to Ravello and a hike on the Path of the Gods (where you have to get to Bomerano at the top of the mountains to do it). I normally do Amalfi and Ravello in a day, getting up to Ravello early and then coming back down before the crowds get up there (and overcrowd the bus haha).

I would stay on the AC (not the Sorrento Coast) and pick a place with good ferry connections. If you want to do the path of the gods, apparently Travelmar has a dedicated shuttle bus to Bomerano included in the ticket you buy from them which I hope would alleviate the SUPER CROWDEDNESS of the normal buses.

I think that staying in Amalfi is a pretty good idea, or even Atrani (which is just a short walk) from Amalfi. Amalfi is so convenient, due to its NUMEROUS transport connections, where most of the buses start and end on the coast as well as many options for ferries. Both are less ritzy than Positano, which might be better for your wallet.
